Dr. Yoko Mimura

Board Member & Policy Research Advisor

Dr. Yoko Mimura is an Accredited Financial Counselor® and Professor of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at California State University Northridge. Prior to joining the California State University Northridge, Dr. Mimura was a Research Professional at the University of Georgia.

Research agenda of Dr. Mimura has involved two themes: household finance and housing for special populations. Current projects focus on intergenerational transmission of financial literacy and practices in the U.S. and association between financial preparation and subjective well-being in Japan. She has extensive experiences in research and research training, including conceptualizing research focus and questions, planning and collecting data, both qualitative and quantitative, preparing and analyzing data, and completing manuscripts. Dr. Mimura has worked with several large datasets.

Currently, Dr. Mimura serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Family and Economic Issues, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, and Journal of Personal Finance. She served as a board member for American Council on Consumer Interests 2019-2022.
